Audi 80 Questions and Answers

My catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I've heard audi covers exhaust systems under factory warranty up to 80,000 miles. Is this true?

the exhaust and cats should last a LOT longer than 80k miles. I currently own an 94 with 183k miles on the original exhaust. I recently sold another 94 with over 200k and still had the original exhaust. My winter car, also an audi, has 113k on the original exhaust.

as someone else mentioned, if your cats are bad at 80k, something killed them and audi will try proving it. The easiest way and most common way to ruin a cat is to not replace the 02 sensor when they go bad. When that happens, the ecu forces the fuel mixture to go rich, which over works the cats, which then overheats them, which then turns the mesh into a blob, when then clogs the exhaust, which then makes a pffffsss sound. Folks will debate how long it takes for a bad 02 sensor to destroy a cat but it DOES happen.

Check your manual for the warranty info, it will be in there. If there is something wrong with it, they will replace it.

yes its 8 years or 80,000 miles but like all warranties they try to show that its your fault or due to non manufacture defect... good luck, oh but i dont believe it will cover the whole exhaust system.

Since I flushed the water cooloing system then re-filled the system with anti freeze, I'm now having problems with de-misting the windows!! Im pretty certain that the problem does not lie with the heater matrix as i'm still geting very warm air! I'm not certain if there is a way of "bleeding" the system as its probable that there is an air lock somewhere! Please help as its driving me mad, driving with a tea towel in the car!! P.S. Its a 4 cylinder engine, 1.8E 8v 1989 B3 Model.
Thanx Sal UK I'l give it a try.Thanx daxica but it doesnt have a pollen fillter and the car defo has no leaks, been thru many a car wash to prove that lol, and thanx Paul, but the car doesnt have A/C but cheers anyway.

If it is a coolant leak, then the windows will not clear because the additive in the coolant will prevent evaporation from the glass. I would suggest that seen as how this has come about since you flushed the system that you have a slight leak at the heater matrix. The leak may be only sufficient to let out vapours rather than liquid.Try putting one of the coolant system sealers in to the system and see if that helps.

Cars rely not only on the heater for defrosting. The A/C compressor kicks in so that the air can be Dried AND heated before blasting the windshield. Make sure the A/C system is working for proper defrosting.

I don't know about your type of car but on some cars the pollen filter being clogged can cause this problem. Also it could be that your car is leaking somewhere causing the constant wet windows.

Injector timing could be off, timing belt could have skipped a notch. How many miles? Turbo could be on its last legs. This is a tough one to answer.

first get he instruction manel for the car.

If you need to take it back read the copyright print near the back.

I suggest you go to the local garage and get it looked at.

You could be spilling petrol everywhere! (it could be leaking)

thanks bye

Audi 80 Problems

Engine Problems with air leaks and the fuel injection may cause starting difficulties.
Suspension & Steering Various bushings—located around the subframe, suspension, and steering—deteriorate with age. A clunking noise when driving over bumps, accelerating, or stopping may be a sign of worn bushings.
Drive Train Our technicians recommend having the constant velocity (CV) boots and CV joints inspected at each service. Servicing torn CV boots early can prevent the need to replace the CV half shaft or CV joint.
