I have a 1995 325is with 150000 miles. I recently found out I need new tie-rod ends, something is slipping bad when I put the car in reverse, and my tires have only a few weeks left until they need replacement. Considering the age and the potential cost to fix, realistically is it time to trade this in for something else?

Response to "Alex"= Yes, good point... I guess I am asking, is it time for me to just bite the bullet and go buy a car? Should I repair this or retire it?
It's an automatic transmission... I recently replaced the serpentine belt and the starter. About 4 years ago a new engine, radiato, water pump, and 2 years ago suspension. Problem is little things are falling apart and rotting out, I feel like I am tired of driving a car that looks like it has been through a war, well maybe not that bad but I lived in the city and street parking leaves scars.
I could go into my anti BMW mode, but I will not.
When I get ready to trade, I look at the prices that a car is selling for that I would want to replace mine with. Then I look at how much it was worth as a trade in and see just how much it will cost me to just drive it off the lot. Then I check with my insurance agent and see how much more that I will have to pay in insurance. I take the sum of these and add in the sales tax.
By the time I have done all that, most often the cost of replacement exceeds the cost of repair.
Which only leaves me with one additional thing to consider, is my vanity worth that dollar figure. Some times it is. Like when I traded off a 1990 Aerostar for a 1996 Passport. The Aerostar was in need of body work for me to feel like it was not an insult. The body work cost exceeded the difference in price. So I traded.
My Miata is different, it is also a 90, but I will keep that one running till the day I have to stop driving.
I would say fix it up. If you want something newer, still fix it up and keep it. Lets face it, in 15 years a cherry 325is may be the hit of a car show!
BMW's are good for years and tons of miles. It is normal for tie-rod ends to go out about then or earlier. it is also normal for the tires to go bad when the tie-rods go out. The tie-rods are just rubber so as time and weather conditions change they will wear out. Now the transmission. Is it a manual or an automatic? A manual clutch system is normal to go out on a BMW around 150k to 200k depending on normal driving conditions. Now if it is a automatic then you will have to replace the transmission and that wil be a costly repair. you will have to think if the car has that much value in your heart. Once you replace the transmission then your car's main drive system will be good to go for another 150-200k miles.

In my opinion it was time to trade it about 8 years ago. But now, it's kind of too late.
it has 121k miles. recently replace timing chain. good tires. original radio.
a private seller has one up for 1800 but he said he would let it go for 1400. pretty good deal right?
Seems like a decent price to me but there is a lot to consider. Depends on the interior and exterior condition. Also following are a bunch of questions I would have to know whether the price is good or not:
All electrical properly functioning (heater, door locks, power windows, etc...)?
Any lights on the dash that have not been addressed?
How's the clutch?
What about maintenance records?
Are there engine fluid leaks?
Any modifications?
The list goes on . . .
One of the primary concerns I would have is whether it's been in an accident or not. These cars are not easy to make straight after certain types of accidents. They are getting tough to find (in good condition) but can be great machines if they are well maintained.
I am considering paying over $5000 for one that has an S50 (E36 M3 engine) swapped in (plus lots of good suspension work) if that makes you feel any better.

No I wouldn't buy it for two reasons one the timing chain has been replaced , two 121k miles. offer $1000 ( 18 years old)

i have two bmw 325is...one automatic and one manuel....one with silver plastic interior and one with dark wood interior...im trying to swith the interiors and its easy with a butter knife but the last part, which is on the gear seems hard....how do i remove it? the window buttons are on the cover where do i pop out?

Sometimes they get kinda rusty on the clips. Remove the shifters surroundings and reach under and push them out wires and all then you can unplug them.
First off...if you can afford 2 BMWs, then stop working on them with a butter knife and get a decent set of tools.
Now, the knob should either screw off or have a clip on the bottom of the ball. The window switches have a clip under the switch. Slide under the switch and it (should) pop up if you have pushed in on the clip. Just take your time. No Rush.

Defect Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. A MALFUNCTION OR FAILURE OF A COOLANT SYSTEM COMPONENT, SUCH AS A THERMOSTAT, WATER PUMP, OR FAN BELT, CAN RESULT IN SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED COOLANT TEMPERATURE AND SYSTEM PRESSURE. IF THE INDICATIONS OF A CRITICAL OVERHEATING CONDITION IS NOT NOTICED BY THE DRIVER, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT DAMAGE TO, OR FAILURE OF, A COOLANT SYSTEM COMPONENT COULD OCCUR.
Consequence Summary: IF A CRACK WERE TO FORM OR A SEAM WERE TO SEPARATE IN THE HEATER CORE END PIECE, HOT COOLANT COULD SUDDENLY BE EXPELLED, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY TO A VEHICLE OCCUPANT.
Corrective Summary: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW DESIGN RADIATOR CAP TO CONTROL PRESSURE AND PROVIDE GREATER COOLANT OVERFLOW IN THE EVENT OF OVERHEATING.

Engine: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
Defect Summary: FEED FUEL HOSES CAN HARDEN AND "SET" OVER TIME, ALLOWING A SEEPAGE OF FUEL AT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE HOSE AND THE ENGINE FITTING. THE CLAMP USED TO HOLD THE HOSE TO THE FITTING IS UNABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE HARDENING OF THE FEED FUEL HOSE.
Consequence Summary: FUEL SEEPAGE BETWEEN THE FEED FUEL HOSE AND THE ENGINE FITTING CAN RESULT IN FREE FUEL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE WHEN EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
Corrective Summary: A REDESIGNED FEED FUEL HOSE AND HOSE CLAMP WILL BE INSTALLED TO ALLEVIATE THE FUEL SEEPAGE.
