The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solenoid is an electronic vacuum valve that distributes engine vacuum to the EGR valve when the computer commands it.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing EGR Solenoid

  • Check Engine Light may illuminate
  • Engine "pinging" on acceleration
  • Emissions failure
  • The related vacuum hoses should always be inspected whenever the EGR solenoid is replaced

  • Proper operation of the EGR valve should be confirmed after replacement of the EGR solenoid
