Parking Brake Shoes

Parking brake shoes are small brake shoes housed inside the drum portion of the rear disc brake rotors. When the parking brake is applied, cables actuate the parking brake shoes and force them against the inside drum surface of the rear disc brake rotor.

Symptoms of Wear or Failure of Parking Brake Shoe

  • Parking brake will not hold on slight incline
  • Parking brake shoes wear out over time and should be inspected periodically
  • Brake performance will be compromised if the brake shoes become contaminated with brake fluid or oil due to leaky seals or wheel cylinders
