replaced ignition switch, but getting ignition lock defective on dashboard

I was having problems removing the key from the ignition switch, so I put a new ignition switch in, the key works it turns the car on, but it doesn't open door automatically, and on the dash there is a message ignition lock defective, but the scanner gives me a message 00166.
