What would suddenly stop engine?

What is your question?

Car started normally then stalled after engaging reverse. It would not try to start after that. All works with key in accessory position except fuel pump is not heard. Everything goes dead when key is turned to start position.

What makes this problem better or worse?

Car has always started easily.
