will not come out of park

won't come out of park, I pump the brake pedal a few times then it will let me change to r,r etc.

The shift lever interlock is released from a signal that the brake light switch sends. If the brake light switch is not working, wiring is compromised or is out of adjustment, the shift lever will not release. Check here first.
