What is your question?
I have a 2006 ford 500 limited. Recently the serpentine belt snapped and I was looking at getting it replaced. The steering wheel wouldn’t turn without a great deal of force and the dash board was showing a battery error. The mechanic said that the AC Compressor is the problem along with the serpentine belt. But isn’t the AC compressor just for the air conditioning as the name implies or does it really affect the steering wheel and power steering like the mechanic claims?
What makes this problem better or worse?
No serpentine belt
How long has your 2006 Ford Five Hundred had this problem?
One week

Hello, the steering and charging system is affected because the belt has broken. The belt requires the air conditioning compressor to be turning and not binding. If it is binding, the belt will break and the other pulley driven items such as power steering pump and alternator will stop working when the belt is gone. So yes, he's correct; the AC Compressor concern needs to be resolved and a new belt installed to engage the steering and charging system components.
