Well, truth is you do have a radiator. Typically though you don't add directly to it. Coolant is added to the reservoir for coolant. It is essential to ensure you are bleeding air pockets out of the cooling system, however, because if you don't you will cause overheating. And at some point, you will cause engine damage. There's no way to know if you have engine damage or just air pockets in your cooling system until you try to purge the air pockets.
