Hi - I am Dave, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. If you are asking this question, this is not something you should be trying to do. And I mean that respectfully. Handling refrigerants is something that must be done by responsible and knowledgeable technicians, who take training on how to handle them safely. Yes, you can certainly still purchase your own refrigerant and sure, you can find the ports on the AC lines. But if I don't have a set of gauges to check pressure and you don't even have a sense of if there is any refrigerant in the system at all right now, and you don't know what the cause of your system not working is – it wouldn't be responsible to try and charge your system. If the system does not need refrigerant, and you overcharge it, it will just be released to the atmosphere which is toxic.
