What is wrong with my air conditioning and how much is the repair?

The air conditioner stopped working no air at all. We were at a function turned on the car turned off the air conditioner to use on -Star for directions. We went to turn the air conditioner back on and it would not work. This afternoon my husband went to start the car and air conditioner came on. Went into the store came out to start the car and the air conditioner would not start again. Still not working. No air at all.

What makes this problem better or worse?
