What is your question?
Advice requested please. I have a Subaru Forester S 2016 model. My car is parked on the street, facing south. Street is level at that point. Car has been parked all night with temperatures in the low 60s. The sun is up and is warming things up (it’s June 12). At 8:30 am I start the car. I want to go north so I turn the wheel to the left to make the U-turn. And then this horrible creaky, grinding noise is heard from the vicinity of the rear (I think). But when I straighten out and keep going, the noise disappears. I took it to my mechanic but of course by that time the noise is all gone and he can’t find a thing wrong with it and tells me not to worry. On the return trip from the mechanic I don’t hear any noise and the car drives as it should. Should I take my mechanic’s advice? I have to drive 100 miles tomorrow.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Gets better once the car is moving.
How long has your 2016 Subaru Forester had this problem?

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. I would suggest that a good physical inspection by a technician to ensure that all visible components are intact, and in good condition is the best way to move forward as far as feeling safe on a road trip. I understand your concern about a singular occurrence that happens when you first drive the vehicle. My suggestion would be to leave the vehicle with the technician overnight where they can experience this first thing in the morning on first Drive. I would suspect that your noise could be related to a suspension component, a drivetrain component, or steering component. But it doesn't necessarily mean those components are faulty. Perhaps, not ideal, but not necessarily a safety issue.
