Our 2012 Avalon did this same thing (very hot console) while using the A/C.

We had the driver side set on Lo and front passenger set at 70. While idoling the console became very hot. When a/c turned off, it immediately cooled down. Dealer acted like they had never heard of thisnd we were just confused.
