Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250h passenger vehicles. If nuts securing the rear tie rod are not tightened properly during service, unwanted movement and rust can develop leading to component failure. Failure of the rear tire rod will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment. This could lead to a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. As of this writing, remedy information is not available for this recall.
Because the remedy for this concern is still being developed by Toyota, no owner notification is being sent at this time. Notification will be sent when remedy and necessary parts (if any) are in place. Owners are however, advised to contact their local Toyota or Lexus dealer if they notice any abnormal noise from the rear suspension area. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
